A Scenic Elopement / Small Wedding Option near the Winchester, VA Courthouse
Nestled between Shenandoah University and downtown Winchester is Jim Barnett Park’s Wilkins Lake…a medium-sized beautiful body of water stocked with fish and featuring a walking path around its circumference. This lake makes for some wonderful elopement / wedding photographs if you are looking for something a slight notch above the scenic courthouse area.
The best part for my couples who are getting married is that the lake is only a short 5 minute drive from the Winchester / Frederick County Judicial Center (courthouse) where you can obtain your Virginia marriage license (an easy process that takes only 30 minutes…read how!). So you can visit the courthouse, obtain your marriage license, and then drive to the park’s lake area where I can marry you and take some photographs if you select one of my packages. Then after we are finished, we can drive back to the Judicial Center (courthouse) where I immediately file your marriage paperwork with the court allowing you to obtain certified copies of your marriage license right then and there.
TERMS OF USE: In using the Wilkins Lake area for your elopement / wedding, you accept that you are doing so “at your own risk”. I am in no way affiliated with Jim Barnett park, and you ARE NOT reserving a venue, but using it as a public park for your wedding. Being that Jim Barnett Park is a free public venue, if they have activities, summer camps, or grounds work being performed that day, we must work around it. Rest assured the lake area is very large and I have done many weddings there, so there are plenty of spots to choose from!
In addition, chairs, tables, or other decorations may NOT be used or setup. Also items such as rice and confetti are strictly prohibited. Finally, you should plan to arrive dressed in your wedding attire as there is no dressing or restroom onsite.
Jim Barnett Park’s Wilkins Lake are is a wonderful place for couples wanting a simple courthouse marriage but still interested in some photographs to capture the memories of their intimate wedding day.
